The ancient martial art form Kalaripayattu is deemed to be the basis of Shaolin pratices. Introduced by travelling Buddhist monks, its mixture of combat codes  and healing techniques are based on ayurvedic ethics and on close observation of the animal kingdom. Raw feline power and aerial grace unite in the display of acrobatic turns and in the handling of arms.
